Blacksea visits Canakkale

On the 7th and 8th of April 2012, 10th International Filmmor Women's Film Festival on Wheels is coming to Canakkale. I recommend wacthing 'A few Brave People', it will take you the Blacksea Region and leave your heart there. It will be shown at Suleyman Demirel Conference Hall in Canakkale 18 Mart University at 13:00.

How to get to Assos?

Driving from Istanbul to Assos, over Canakkale, this would take around 6 hrs. It really depends on how much patience you have, are you brave enough to drive within Istanbul, driving out of Istanbul and driving back to Istanbul? The toll roads become a fortress soo high at rush hours that you may just want to give up on the whole idea of travelling and spend the entire time in Istanbul. If your timing is good, then you can make it easily, in and out! Istanbul-Assos is a bit more than 400kms.


Flying from Sabiha Gokcen Istanbul Airport (SAW) to Çanakkale (CKZ) with Turkish Airlines, picking up the rent a car from the airport, even if you are heading south in Turkey, this saves a lot of energy and time. The ride from your accommodation spot to SAW may be too long, the winter schedule for flights is very limited and at very absurd hours. If you are travelling in summer you may even be lucky enough to find a flight from Ataturk Airport (IST) Çanakkale-Assos is about 90kms.

Flying from SAW to EDO with Borajet, picking up your car from this airport. Edremit is the second nearest airport to Assos. The above paragraph is valid also for this destination. Edremit- Assos is about 80kms.

The best way to eliminate city traffic, absurd flight schedules etc is to take the fast ferry from Istanbul Yenikapi to Bandirma, pick up your car from the ferry stop in Bandirma and drive to Assos, this is also a great spot to drop back your car at the end of a big trip in Turkey. If your flight back home is from Istanbul, this option will avoid the nasty traffic experiences that will de-form the perfect memoirs you made among the way. You will get rid of the car in an instant and step right into the heart of the city after a fast trip during which you can enjoy your book... From Bandirma, Bandirma-Assos is about 250kms.

If driving is out of the question, you can take a taxi from these airports to Assos, very expensive but an idea. You can take a bus ride from Istanbul to Ayvacik. Ayvacik is the nearest town to Assos, from Ayvacik you can easily take a taxi at a very reasonable price to Assos.

Before Wine

Guests have brought a crate of grapes from a daily visit to Bozcaada, as we can not make wine we thought... Grape&Ginger Jam; while preparing this jam I thought of my brother who is so far away from me for earning his life out of grapes, he is always a thought away not further I found out.

A kg of grapes, cut them into 2 or 4 pieces depending on your patience, take out the seeds, place them in the sun with a cup of sugar, let them enjoy a full sunny day, with sunset boil them with fresh ginger pieces at least half an hour.
