Our Favorite Istanbul Activity

Bosphorus is the strait in Istanbul that divides Asia from Europe. A ferry ride along the Bosphorus is an unforgettable experience. It is touristic and so local.

Old wooden houses, mansions and palaces and the two bridges that connect to continents. Charming seaside districts, once fisherman's villages and remarkable pieces of Ottoman architecture all spread along. The current ferry schedule is here. There also some other companies running, starting mostly from Eminönü. 

30th of August, Victory Day in Turkey, 2014

August the 30^th, is the Victory Day in Turkey. Today is the 92^nd anniversary  of the victory over the occupying forces of Greece in Anatolia.
The ‘Great Offensive’ reached its primary goal in the battle of Dumlupinar, 4 days after the initial counter attack and the Greek army in Anatolia was defused on 30^th of August 1922. Only after this achievement, the remaining Turkish cities and towns invaded by the ‘Allies” of the WW1 were saved one by one. The 30^th of August marks a huge step of the Turkish national independence forces decisive victory and is officially celebrated annually since 1935.
